Bug Description

Resume from hibernation state on Toshiba A50 (with 855GM Integrated Graphics Device, using i810 driver) fails. X server appears to restart several times (mouse pointer or "busy wheel" appear briefly multiple times) before finally hanging with a blank screen. Resume from suspend-to-RAM works.

Note, this occurs when selecting hibernate from: (1) the logout screen; (2) gnome-power-manager; (3) gdm

what helped me, was adding the boot parameter "acpi_sleep=s3_bios,s3_mode" in the grub. as far as i know in some computers only s3_bios or s3_mode is neeeded (not both)

Thanks, acpi_sleep=s3_bios works. Restore from hibernation (called from power manager, I haven't had time to test from other routes) now works but it appears to mess up the driver for the sound card. I can live with that for now.

Can this modification to the grub menu.lst be done automatically on install? As it stands, this fix would be rather unfeasible for novice users.

Hardy Heron Alpha5 was recently released. It contains an updated version of the Intel driver. You can download and try the new Hardy Heron Alpha5 Live CD from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/hardy/alpha-5/ . If you can, please verify if this bug still exists or not and report back your results. General information regarding the release can also be found here: http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/hardy/alpha5 .

If it still happens with Hardy Alpha5 I guess it is a duplicate of bug #150109.

Same here with my A50. It suspends and hibernates but wakes up to black screen. I am using Ubuntu 8.04 Beta.

Suspend / hybernate works like a dream on Pardus Linux 2007.3 which has the older 2.6.18 kernel.
