Bug Description

Hi there!

My Thinkpad T43p (for a description of the hardware see: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LaptopTestingTeam/ThinkpadT43p-2668) fails to suspend/resume in dapper. This is a regression from breezy.

So far I observed these behaviours running "pmi action sleep" as root:
1) Laptop suspends and immediently resumes due to "device or resource busy" (how can I find out which one that is? I'd guess it is related to bluetooth, but that is just a guess).

2) Laptop goes down, you see a text-console for a secound with the message "Device or resource busy" before the box turns "off" and the laptop fails to resume (showing no activity on the HDD or other LEDs).

3) Laptop suspends and resumes with the display turned off. The laptop is accessible via the network and seems to operate fine otherwise.

Note: the original reporter indicated the bug was in package 'acpi-support'; however, that package was not published in Baltix.

Can you attach dmesg from cases (1) and (3)?

Hard to do as the laptop seems to switch between these three modes of failure randomly:-(

/var/log/dmesg is empty, I'll attach /var/log/kern.log for case 1.). I could not get case 3.) during the last 5 suspend/resume cycles I did.

kern.log for case 1.)

Right, so hci_usb is still lacking suspend/resume methods. If you unload it, does that improve things?

The module is in use, so rmmod can not remove it.

Adding hci-usb to the MODULES line in /etc/default/acpi-support does not change the behaviour I see here.

The next kernel upload should improve things.

I just upgraded to linux-image-2.6.15-21-686: No change in behaviour. Sleep does not work.

Is this fix still going to make it into dapper?

Hey, right! I did not notice since linux-image-686 still points to -21.

I can not try my full system setup yet since the restricted modules are not there yet.

But running without wlan I get this behaviour:
The system suspends and resumes fine and then imediently does a clean shutdown.

The suspend works with the 2.6.15-22 kernel.

I'll open a new bug about the laptop shutting down immediently after resume.
