mysql doesn't have to be restarted anymore

Bug #32317 reported by DanH on 2006-02-21

Bug Description

mysql seems to handle suspend/resume just fine these days - and stopping/restarting mysql takes quite some time.

At the same time, ifplugd needs to be restarted (if installed, of course), to get be functional after suspend/resume.

In otherwords, I'd like to se this:

STOP_SERVICES="ifplugd "

in /etc/default/acpi-support

Does anyone remember what the original issue was with mysql, so we can confirm whether it's fixed?

DanH (holmsand-gmail) wrote :

As far as I remember, a running mysql prevented any suspension from happening at all.

Paul Sladen (sladen) wrote :

Owing to some crazy locking (or something of that nature), mysql actually prevented the suspend from continuing. Can somebody comfirm if removing 'mysql' from the stopped services list actually allows it to proceed as normal now?

Scott: is 'udev' still compatible with 'udev', or has the functionality been taken over?

<mjg59> sladen: No, it replaces it

In that case, should udev be conflicting with 'ifplugd'? It's already conflicting with 'ifrename' but that's a slightly different ball-park:

  $ apt-cache show udev | grep ^Conflicts:
  Conflicts: hotplug, ifrename

I wasn't aware that udev broke ifplugd? They should be compatible

Changing status from Incomplete to Confirmed (unanswered question is not obvious, and you seems to understand yourself among you).
On gutsy, /etc/default/acpi-support have STOP_SERVICES="mysql ", but no STOP_SERVICES="ifplugd ".
Bug #49688 is very similar to this one, and confirmed that there is no problem anymore with MySQL and suspend/resume, I'll let you guys decide
if one needs to become duplicate of the other.

As for knowing if udev and ifplugd are compatible, I am afraid it is over my head.
