Bug Description
I'm afraid that I'm only assuming that this is the correct package.
acpi-support versios: 0.114-0intrepid2
Kernel: 2.6.27-9-generic #1 SMP Thu Nov 20 22:15:32 UTC 2008 x86_64
BIOS: InsydeH2O Rev. 3.5
CPU: Intel Dual Core T3400
Expected behavior: The fan should cycle on and off to maintain cpu temperature within a safe range.
Actual behavior: When first booted, the fan does not start running until the CPU temperature reaches 75C ( I've installed lm-sensors to monitor this). The fan then starts, on high I think, and remains on thereafter even though the temperature quickly stabilizes at around 25C.
I can stop the fan by performing Suspend-to-RAM, and then the cycle will repeat after resuming.
I still don't know whether my problem is best covered by this project, but I have found that adding acpi_osi="Linux" to the boot options in GRUB fixes it. The fan now cycles on and off to keep the temperature between 35 and 50°C.
