Bug Description

similar to bug 22532
If I do the following
sudo -s
echo disk > /sys/power/state
Hibernate is fine and resumes with no problems (albeit the screen is a bit messy
until it has fully resumed)
When I press the power button to hibernate the network fails to resume - eg
can't find any URL in Firefox

Running Dapper release of Ubuntu at very latest update level. I edited
"powerbutton.sh" to call "hibernate.sh" so that pressing the powerbutton did not
shutdown the PC. /etc/default/acpi-support has nearly all options disabled. I'll
attach.
My laptop is a Dell L400 with the DSDT table modified according to the
ACPIBattery Wiki

I am guessing I need to put my network card in a whitelist - it's a Dell
Truemobile (Orinoco really)

config for suspend/resume

tried to keep as simple as possible. Only just modified to disable laptop
support - problem occurs with laptop support enabled, but with disabled the
power button does not trigger a hibernate

I'm having the same problem with this network card in a desktop PC:
Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL-8139/8139C/8139C+ (rev 10).
Suspend to RAM works fine.

I'm also having the problem. Fujitsu Siemens Lifebook C-Series laptop with Realtek 8139 NIC. Up to date Ubuntu 7.04

I have found a solution, and possibly the problem. It seems the Gnome "NetworkManager Applet" that causes the problem. After resuming from hibernation, the applet keeps trying to get a network address, to no avail. When running either /etc/init.d/networking restart or dhclient, they report successfully binding a DHCP assigned address, but the Applet keeps trying, and no Network contact is possible. However, when clicking "disable Networing" on the applet, then the obtained address' from the two previously mentioned commands stay, and Network access is possible. Seems the NetworkManager Applet is buggy. My suggestion, disable it, I haven't noticed any benefits to it from what was previously there.

I'm experiencing the same buggy behviour of NetworkManager after waking up from suspend on a Dell Inspiron 6400.
I can get my network working again by doing a /etc/init.d/networking restart and manually starting NetworkManager again (sudo NetworkManager &).

Same problems as everyone else, I am on a home built rig that uses Abit IP35-Pro Mobo w/ dual Gigabit ports (Realtek 8110SC Gigabit Lan), I am running my network on eth1 (instead of eth0), I don't know if that makes a difference, I also am running multiple VM's using VMware that use br0 which is tethered to eth1 (I believe), and I am running Ubuntu 7.10 64-bit (I hope all this added info helps)...
I've even tried "sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart" upon resuming and not even that works :(

Same happens for me, I have to change my IP address, to something else, then back again and it works after waking from hibernation. It is a pain, but I can live with it!

Please note that Ubuntu has switched to pm-utils for suspend/hibernate.
There's a fix in progress for this at bug 162654.

I can't connect to ethernet after suspending in karmic ... is this the same problem?

I'm marking this as invalid: it's outdated and might have been fixed via bug 162654.

If you're still experiencing the problem in Ubuntu Lucid (available as Release Candidate), please open a new bug - preferably using "ubuntu-bug linux" for reporting.

Thank you.
