acpi - Option to disable CD/DVD drive for power saving

Bug Description

It's probably possible to disable the dvd drive when the user does not need it.
It should save some power.

This sounds like a great idea. I hardly ever use my laptops DVD/CD drive and any tiny bit of power I can save is worth it.

The upstream Linux 3.9 kernel finally contains ZPODD, the Zero-Power Optical Device Driver. It's only for SATA optical disk drives though. A PPA of this kernel is available at and instructions on how to install and uninstall it are available at
