Bug Description
- Crash on battery run-down:
When my laptop battery power ran out, the whole Ubuntu 7.10 system crashed rather than hibernating. I'd been been editing an OpenOffice word doc when the screen went black, I momentarily saw some ascii messages that were not there long enough to read, and the system died.
- then failed file recovery:
Even more surprisingly, on restart, OpenOffice file recovery only retrieved the file in it's original state, before I'd spent two hours in the previous session working on it, even though I'd regularly been saving it! And I thought Linux was supposed to be stable and reliable. Back to Windows for me...

This battery run-down hibernate failure has been reported before. Considering the consequences, I'd have thought this (Bug #39564) would have more than a 'Medium' importance rating:
