Bug Description

I'm running Abiword 2.8.6 on Ubuntu 11.10.

I'd like to set Abiword as the default application for opening ODT and DOC files. When I right click a DOC file in Nautilus, Abiword shows up in the context menu; that's good. When I right click an ODT file in Nautilus, Abiword shows up in the Open With submenu in the context menu; that's also good. Unfortunately, when I right click a file of either of these types and choose Properties and visit the Open With tab, Abiword does not appeaer in the resulting list, even if I click the "Show other applications" button. As a result, I can't set Abiword as the default application for these types. (If it were in the list in this tab, I could select it and then press "Set as default").

That seems like to be bug #882900 ("Some handlers don't get listed in the "open with" tab") which seems a gtk issue and has been sent to https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=665116

Ok, I just looked at the issue, gtk correctly filters out the .desktop which doesn't claim to support command line argument in their Exec line

confirmed, abiword.desktop has "Exec=abiword", adding a " %U" to it, running sudo update-desktop-database and restarting nautilus should workaround it
