file open abiword cannot select to only see .abw files

sTo reproduce first install lubuntu 16.04 then open abiword and save a document with a few lines of text in it like abi.abw in your home folder. Then close abiword open again and hit abiword hit file open and it may open all files then try to select abiword only in the bottom left hand corner. I expected to only see the abiword files to select to find them faster. Instead I select to filter the files I am trying to open this way and nothing happens.
