AbiWord's default .abw format is only used by AbiWord. Whether it's an open format or not, this makes it nonportable, and not good for interoperability or archival purposes.
Is it possible to set ODT (Open/Libre Office OpenDocument ODT) format as default AbiWord format?
Is is simple:
just add
<SystemDefaults
DefaultSaveFormat=".odt"
/>
to
/usr/share/abiword-2.9/system.profile
