It's a shame some people leave Ubuntu just because of the Mint default desktop. Having it available right in the software center may be a good thing for Gnome2 nostalgics.

I think this bug is obsolete now.
MGSE were replaced by Cinnamon, which packaging request is tracked in bug #907196
