Since the bug is either in Adobe Flash or in the BBC's flash content, perhaps Adobe and the BBC could work together to ameliorate the problem...

How does this break *any* machines? Can't you just remove the Flash player as packaged for Ubuntu, and install it from http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/completion/?installer=Flash_Player_10_for_other_Linux_(.tar.gz) (the link you yourself provided)?
