unable to login using lightdm screen flickers no login dialog

Bug Description
Just updated to the latest version of oneiric, screen flickers when atempting to login, I can see text lightdm with lock icon on top right hand, but no login prompt. Had to shut down ubuntu in order to login again
I expected my monitor to wake up and show login dialog so I can resume work instead what I saw is what is described above .
$ lsb_release -rd
