Hi Masiosare and thanks for testing the new version of Ubuntu!

Please open the sound preferences dialog and go to the "output" tab. Do you notice if the "connector" combobox switches automatically between speaker and headphones as you plug/unplug?

When headphones are plugged in and you don't get any sound, could you check if moving the volume a tiny bit will restore volume to headphones?

Thank you!

I can confirm this. If I change the volume I get a very faint signal in the headphones even with volume at max.

The phonon configuration does notice when I plug and unplug the headphones.

When I checked the connector combobox, it did not change from "Analog Speakers" as I plugged the headphones in or out.

At me the connector combobox DOES change when I plug in and out the headphones. But whether headphones are in or out, sound will only work if I manually set it to "analog speakers" ("analog headphones" in either case produces no sound whatsoever).

@Theresa, Georg, unless you're sure you have the same hardware, please file a new bug for your issue, e g by using the "ubuntu-bug audio" terminal command. Thanks!

I can confirm this bug on my Dell XPS 15.

I have two outputs. One S/PDIF output, where everything works fine. But when I plug in my headphone the the other output connector, pulseaudio changed 'connector' to analog headphone and I get no sound. When I manually change connector from 'analog headphone' to 'analog speakers', there is sound comming through my headphone.

I also noticed that when changing pulseaudio from 'analog speakers' to 'analog headphone', the 'Speaker' volume in alsamixer is muted. When I unmute this, I can also hear sound (through my headphone)

This workaround worked for me: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/InstallingLinuxAlsaDriverModules

In some similar bug reports, other people solved their problem with this: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HdaIntelSoundHowto

I have to say this was really painful for me: I had to search for a dozen hours before finally being able to use my headphones on a very common computer (Asus N73S).

How come this bug is still not resolved in Oneiric?
