Bug Description

If a CD-ROM has a defect in some file, copying blocks. It should produce an error but blocking is not the worst. The CD-ROM cannot be unmounted, ejected. Only a hard restart will free it.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? If so, please reopen the bug. Thanks in advance.

It is nice that you want to help triaging bugs but randomly closing bug reports without even considering them is just pointless. Have you tried to reproduce it? It is very easy. Find a CD with some errors (or just scratch it a bit yourself). Then try to copy the CD into your hard drive. This is surely a kernel issue that has existed in Linux since, well, always. So, yes, this bug is still exists and this bug is still valid. I don't have any hope that it will be solved soon, though.

Please do not change status to confirmed, it is not the best way to help fix it.
Ok, I scratched one CD to test this issue and NOT i can't reproduce it on my system.

Here you can see screen shot, with errors about files can't be read and ata errors... but nothing of it blocked my system or cdrom.
So better way to begin is debug on your hardware.
