Bug Description

[FFe justification]
As a leaf package this is low-risk.

This tool would be very useful for debugging; thus, it would be useful to have in post-FF, as that's when we're doing the most debugging.

I've got a 2nd reviewer lined up; it turns out the Debian X team has been too busy to review this upstream yet.
[/FFe justification]

apitrace is a utility for tracing the behaviour of OpenGL applications. It proxies OpenGL calls between the app being traced and the GL provider, resulting in a trace that can be replayed to recreate the rendering.

This makes it a useful tool for debugging both OpenGL applications and the OpenGL drivers themselves.

This bug is tagged needs-packaging which identifies it as a request for a new package in Ubuntu. As a part of the managing needs-packaging bug reports specification, https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/Specs/NeedsPackagingBugs, all needs-packaging bug reports have Wishlist importance. Subsequently, I'm setting this bug's status to Wishlist.

I checked the packages list of both Debian and Ubuntu and found nothing. I also searched through the debian bug tracker and couldn't find anything about apitrace. Marked as needs-packaging.

As mentioned in the Debian ITP, the name does seem fairly generic.
If you are not intending to sync this from Debian, I'd prefer it if you at least agreed on a package name with the Debian X people (or whoever is likely to sponsor it) before we land it in Ubuntu.

The binary packages are named “apitrace-gl-*”; that should sufficiently disambiguate them.

OK, in that case, as long as you can find some archive-admin review, FFe granted.

This does need to land though before Beta 2 Freeze (9/20) if its going to go forward.
