set all ATI- driver settings to default - then it works like expected - so most likely the ATI driver.

The proprietary ATI driver or the open source one seems to be the culprit?

I suspect it's the ati driver due to:

NonfreeKernelModules: fglrx

However this looks like a fixed issue, so I can't see much happening.
