Bug Description

I booted the oneiric alpha 2 ISO (mac 64 bit). The welcome screen shows up asking to try or install. I click on live session. Then the application tries to do something and just freezes. You can shutdown the machine with the top bar button but that's about it.

It did work for me once, but all subsequent tries have failed.

Not a bug with the installer rather its likely a bug with xorg or the kernel driver.

You should be able to launch a terminal using the key sequence "Ctrl + T".

Ctrl-t does not work, with or without shift. However I just discovered something stranger:

If I change language with the list on the left and click "try ubuntu" there is no freeze.

If I click on some language, then english again and then "try ubuntu" there is no freeze.

If I just click on "try ubuntu" it freezes.

Hi Jussi,

Can you still reproduce this issue using a daily iso from today?

Yes, it's exactly the same.

Please install xdiagnose, reproduce the freeze, and then run this command:

  apport-collect 807584

Also, please reproduce the issue and then gather output from dmesg and the file /sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/i915_error_state

I can't do that because I can't launch a terminal, switching to text console does not work and you can't ssh in the machine.

However, X itself is not frozen. I can move the mouse, activate top panel thingies and so on. Pressing the power button shuts down the machine cleanly.

I have run apport-collect on this machine many times and the data can be found in e.g. bug 801034.

Hmm, well since you can click on stuff to shut down and whatever, it doesn't sound like X or the GPU has locked up. Perhaps some fault in something outside X. But the report is entirely non-actionable without logs, sorry.
