Bug Description

I upgraded from ubuntu 10.10 to 11.04 and there is a buzzing noise from the laptop speakers.. it sounds like white noise.. I've solved it before in earlier versions but I forget what it was.. Is there a solve for 11.04

I also am experiencing white noise at a constant volume except when the volume is muted.
I have tried changing PCM settings using alsa-mixer but this did not work.

The problem can be replicated by simply booting the 64bit Ubuntu 11.04 desktop LiveCD on a Samsung R540-JA04UK laptop.

Happy to help if there is any more information I can provide.

Also, doing a
$> pkill pulseaudio
silences the interference for around 4 seconds.

I have now been able to workaround this problem with the advice from the post at http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=10751019#post10751019

Essentially, adding the line:

options snd-hda-intel model=auto index=-0

to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf seems to fix the issue.

Apologies, it appears that the previous post does NOT provide a workaround.
