Bug Description

The Unarchiver is a app that support file formats include Zip, Tar-GZip, Tar-BZip2, RAR, 7-zip, LhA, StuffIt and many other old and obscure formats.

The Unarchiver is a Mac OS X app, but the underlying unarchiving code can be run on other OSes too. There is so far no GUI app for any other OS, but there are two command-line tools, unar and lsar, which can be used on Mac OS X, Windows and Linux. These are in development and should be considered beta software, but do work.

Best goal of The Unarchiver is that support RARv3.

works for me in lucid, but has a lot of dependencies. May be they can be reduced? Also it is missing man pages.
Thanks for your hint, Andrei, and thanks for developing this tool, Dag!

I've added some man pages to the source code repository. They're pretty sparse right now, and if anyone wants to help improve them that would be extremely helpful.

Also, the main dependencies should be libz, libbz2, ICU, openssl and of course GNUStep. Maybe the GUI parts of GNUStep (AppKit) have a lot of dependencies? Those are not needed for this, all that is used is the core classes in Foundation. Not sure how the packaging works there though.

theunarchiver is now packaged in Debian, so it will be automatically synced for Ubuntu 12.04.

I take it that would be version 0.4, then. I am currently working towards a release of 1.0, which will be a lot more useful, and usable. What would be the deadline if I wanted that to be done in time for inclusion in 12.04?

Debian import freeze is on December 29th, so Debian should package it before mid-December in order for it to be automatically synced.
12.04 LTS feature freeze is on February 16th. (Developers can manually sync from Debian till this day).
