Bug Description

Using wubi rev 197 I installed Ubuntu 10.10 from Windows XP.

After a few days (today that is) I did a apt-get upgrade.

After that the USA kbd layout was added to the system preferences.
Before I had Slovenian, after I had Slovenian and USA.

Not a big issue, but still.

affects: ubuntu → apt (Ubuntu)

OK, it is a big issue, since USA layout gets added on each boot.

Maybe it was happening before the update too, but I did not notice due to a lot of other issues.

Also, the login screen uses a USE layout.

I'm not sure how apt would change your keyboard layout. Do I understand it right, that the US keyboard layout is added upon each boot, no matter if you do an apt-get update/upgrade or not?

Changed in apt (Ubuntu):
status: New → Incomplete

Yes, it is added on each boot, regardless of running apt.

I noticed it first after an upgrade, so I thought is is apt related, but it is probably not.

PS: In comment 1 I made a typo: "USE" should be of course "USA"

One more thing.
When I login, the indicator icon in the panel (upright corner) says "Svn", but the effective layout is USA.
After I click it, it changes to USA, and the effective layout is still USA.
On the second click it changes back to "Svn" and then finally the actual layout in effect is Slovenian.

Changed in apt (Ubuntu):
status: Incomplete → New
affects: apt (Ubuntu) → ubuntu

Same after upgrading to Ubuntu 11.04:

 - I have USA and Slovenian layouts
 - the login screen uses US
 - after login the indicator at the panel shows Svn (short for Slovenian), but the effective layout is US

Sometimes, after a while it changes by itself to be actually Slovenian.

Or I can switch to US and back to Svn, as described in comment 4.

I'll try to remove US layout again, reboot and see what happens.

I did.

After reboot, the login screen still uses US layout.
After login, the active and indicated layout is USA.

So it was added again.

One more quirk:
If I click the indicator icon (which says USA), the opened menu has "Slovenia" marked as selected, not "USA".

Confirmed.
If I remove USA and leave only Slovenia, USA is back after reboot and set as selected.
Indicator displays USA but in dropdown Slovenia is selected.

(i did not try it)

sudo mv /var/cache/gdm/$USER/dmrc /var/cache/gdm/$USER/dmrc_old

1.) Se odjaviš iz seje
2.) Klikneš na uporabnika, katerega iz seje si se izpisal
3.) Spodaj (tipkovnica) izbereš novo željeno privzeto razporeditev (Slovenija)
4.) Vpišeš geslo

The language is Slovenian, use google translate...
