Bug Description

Hi,

I'm quite new to (k)Ubuntu, but I'm using Slackware since almost 10 years. So while I'm able to install all the stuff required for a development environment myself, it would be much better if there were easy to find development meta-packages.
I didn't find many.
I think there should be a meta package C/C++-development, which installs gcc, the man and info pages, gdb, make, cmake, etc.
Additionally a kde3-devel and a kde4-devel meta package would be nice.

Alex

Wow that is hard to find!
A bug comment should not be the first mention of this
I've found after googling for 10 mins.
I first tried to `apt-cache search --names-only developer`
Then looked in the list of virtual packages at:
http://packages.ubuntu.com/gutsy/virtual/

Also one still needs to copy and paste the suggested pages (docs),
onto an `apt-get install` command as well (I need docs to develop at least).

Grr, and why does the Add/Remove packages app not
list the build-essential package, and why is it not called build-essentials,
and "developer" is not mentioned (searchable) in the build-essential package,
and ...

Thank you for your comments. This does not appear to be a bug report and we are closing it.

From the http://www.ubuntu.com home page there are also better links to the developer wiki pages than there were when this bug was filed nearly a year ago. (Click "Get Developing" then follow the link to the developer documentation.) Hopefully the documentation on those pages will help you with your Ubuntu development efforts.

If you experience further difficulties, please post a question in the support tracker, https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu

I still can't find relevant info in the wiki.
Perhaps you could provide a link?

Where does one ask for "enhancements"?
