Bug Description

The time zone config question about clock being set to GMT or not shows a bit of
unreadable data:

"The hardware clock says the time is now 2004-06-30T06:44:25 UTC -0.467846 seconds."

Perhaps it might be better to limit the output to just 2004-06-30 06:44:25 UTC.

Thanks
Fabio

This comes from hwclock, whose output appears to be locale-dependent. What's
your system locale?

Is it mainly the "-0.467846 seconds" you're objecting to, not the "T" (which is
entirely down to ctime() output)? I think that can be got rid of using better
code in base-config, although an option in hwclock to drop the drift information
would be much better.

Just drop the "-0.467846 seconds" would be enough. The string is just so long
that gets dived in 2 lines and it's not nice to look at.

I've filed Debian bug #260272 for the hwclock option.

I've just uploaded base-config 2.35ubuntu3, which may fix this. However, I'm
slightly confused by the output you quote, since I haven't been able to
reproduce that exact time format in any locale. Once again, what was your system
locale so that I can verify the fix?

I select english installation, Denmark as country and danish keyboard at d-i
time. I can reproduce it on my test machine and i can give you access to it in
few minutes. I guess locale is en_DK.

With base-config ubuntu3 the drift is not there anymore.

Aha, en_DK, now I can reproduce it with the old code. Thanks!

Closing. It's fixed upstream as well now in base-config 2.36.

(Ahem. I mean Subversion trunk, of course; it didn't make it into 2.36.)
