GNOME startup hangs at splash screen

Bug Description

After a fresh install of Sounder CD 2 on powerpc and a login at gdm, GNOME
freezes at the splash screen. It's not terribly clear what it's doing; only
x-session-manager, gconfd-2, gnome-keyring-daemon, bonobo-activation, and
gnome-settings-daemon are running.
