Bug Description

I have a laptop running 10.04 server, running mythtv.

If I don't use my USB TV tuner, "sudo shutdown -P now" works as expected. After I use the tuner in MythTV, shutdown no longer works, specifically I get the line "/ will now halt", the screen goes black, but the power / fans etc all stay on.

The tuner is a leadtek WinFast DTV Dongle Gold.

To get it working I followed these instructions: http://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/Leadtek_WinFast_DTV_Dongle_Gold, although I had to disable one the "firedtv" options in order to get the compile working in step 3.

john@tv:~$ lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
Release: 10.04

john@tv:~$ uname -r
2.6.32-21-server

I had asked about this sort of problem on the mailing list, and was told that this is a problem in the whole DVB subsystem - it doesn't support suspend. I have the same problem with a Hauppauge WinTV-HVR 950 - if anything opens it, the system won't suspend. The device has to be physically removed from the USB to allow suspend to work.

Hi john,

Please be sure to confirm this issue exists with the latest development release of Ubuntu. ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily/current/ . If the issue remains, please run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 609946

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.
