Bug Description

Same problem as in Ubuntu 10.04. Apparently the mobile internet device (several Huawei devices) are recognised as usb flash drives rather than modems. There appears to be some sort of solution online for ubuntu, but it would be good if it could be corrected for the final version.

Can you please attach the contents of dmesg and paste the output of lsusb with the modem plugged in.

It doesn't work in the final version (at least it doesn't on my HP 6735b), when I plug in my Huawei E260 dongle (which works fine with mint 8), it sees it as a mobile internet device, and it gets to the point where it is connecting, the little banner comes up saying it is connected, and then the system locks up solid and needs to be forced to reboot by holding down the start button.

I've noticed this problem with previous Linux Mint and Ubuntu distros, where I had to install the "usb-modeswitch" package. However, my 3G USB Modem works out of the box on Linux Mint 9...

I have a usb 305 and doesn't work with linux mint 9 even with usb-modeswitch for AT&T on a dell 1545 laptop. restart 5 to 10 times might work once. From the forums appears quite a few people have the problem and seems hit or miss with fixes. Works for some not others.
