Bug Description

Binary package hint: metacity

I was setting up keyboard shortcuts for two actions -- "launch run application dialog" and "toggle fullscreen mode".

The "launch run application dialog" is bound to M-<F2> by default, and, when bound to that default, this action works.
The "toggle fullscreen mode" action isn't bound by default, so there's no way to test its default functionality.

I changed the "launch run application dialog" to M-Esc, and it didn't start working either immediately, or after a re-login.
I, also, changed the "toggle fullscreen mode" action to C-M-z, and it didn't start working either.

I have desktop compositing enabled.

When I disabled desktop compositing, everything broke in an instant -- metacity never started again, until after I deleted some files under .config, .cache and .gconf.

I have to add that the non-workingness of "launch run application dialog" with compositing enabled is the same as in Karmic, whereas
the "toggle fullscreen mode" issue is a regression -- it worked fine in Karmic.

This happens on two different amd64 machines, one with r300 driver, another with a r600 one.

Happening on Ubuntu 10.10 installed on a Eeepc 1005ha.

Since many plugins which add functionality apparently are affected and hindered by this problem, I disagree with the importance being set to low.

Not being able to set Run Application to Alt-Esc is bug 518979. It seems you don't have the compiz extrawm plugin enabled as this is what allows the toggle fullscreen to work and with that plugin enabled I can set the option to Ctrl-Alt-z and it makes windows fullscreen.

Changed in compiz (Ubuntu):
