Bug Description

When running the System Test program of Ubuntu 10.04 BETA-2 - LIVE from CD-ROM on my IBM Thinkpad T42, the sound output test failed on both internal speaker and headphone. As a result, I had to skip all microphone testing. Note that sound output issues should have been reported by System Test. Since the RELEASE CANDIDATE is out, I was on the verge of testing the issue again, but I ran into a more serious problem with the desktop installer (reported separately).

For my convenience, I am reporting this bug from my very operational Ubuntu 9.10 OS in the hope that you will be able to obtain my hardware configuration. I just placed my 10.04 Beta-2 CD-ROM in a bag that will EVENTUALLY be recycled, but I can extract it and resubmit this bug report from running that disk LIVE if it would be helpful for debugging purposes.

Note that I will not upgrade from 9.10 to 10.04 until I am persuaded that the sound issue on this machine is successfully resolved.

System testing suggests that this bug IS RESOLVED in the 10.04 FINAL RELEASE that I downoaded on Apr 29, 2010. Note that both internal speaker output and internal microphone proved workable.
