Bug Description

Can't access auto mounted UDF DVD. DVD is auto mounted to /media/SONATA_VOLUME on insert.
See permissions of /media/SONATA_VOLUME bellow! Drive icon also disapeared from nautilus.

There is no problems, when ripping with AcidRip specifying /dev/dvd as source path. Also running: mplayer dvd://0 works without problems.

Running: Ubuntu lucid (development branch)
Release: 10.04
Linux ziost 2.6.32-21-generic #32-Ubuntu SMP Fri Apr 16 08:10:02 UTC 2010 i686 GNU/Linux

Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx LTS does not recognize or mount udf dvds,

that read perfectly in Vista.

When inserting a dvd created inVista, the seek light

goes on, stops, and the CD/DVD icon disappears,

as if I no longer have a cdrom drive.

Removing the Vista created dvd causes the cdrom drive icon to reappear.

Attachment shows terminal output with the Vista created dvd in the drive.

Then no disk, and then again

with music & data dvd, & Vista install dvd.

Apparently whatever format Vista used to create the first dvd tested

cannot be read or even be recognized by Ubuntu 10.04.

Vista calls the format udf, but which version?

Could it be that Ubuntu can read older udf (2.0?) format but not newer udf (2.5?)

BavarianPH,

Ubuntu forever!

Found this fix from 2007 in the ubuntuforums. Just move the udf parameter in the fstab like this:

BEFORE:
/dev/scd0 /media/cdrom0 udf,iso9660 user,noauto,exec,utf8 0 0
AFTER:
/dev/scd0 /media/cdrom0 iso9660,udf user,noauto,exec,utf8 0 0

This worked for me :)

Hello
Is this problem present with the latest updated Lucid's or Maverick's packages?
Thanks in advance

Yes, updated Lucid and Maverick systems still have problems with some UDF DVD's, this is confirmed by several people, see bug #635499
I'm marking this bug as a duplicate of bug #635499 because there is real workaround described and bug is confirmed by Ubuntu developers
