Bug Description

After the menu to select booting without modification, I get a text splash screen with a purple background and white text saying "Ubuntu 10.04", and four periods alternating between white and orange. No logo.

After a while, an error message prints in the middle of that splash screen, right after the periods:

"init: unreadahead-other main process (944) terminated with status 4"

This repeats for processes 945 and 946.

Then it says:
"[ 142.316103] codec_read: codec 0 is not valid..." and the rest is cropped off in my photo, sorry.
It repeats 2 more times, both in 142.3*.

Then the screen goes entirely black (not off).

Right about when the CD stops seeking, it looks like the video mode changes - blank, to off, to blank (black) again.

The (USB) keyboard is unresponsive - LEDs won't respond.

Pushing the power button once briefly gets it to spit out the CD, so something is still working.

I have not yet tried verifying the CD, I plan to do that overnight.

This is on a computer I have been using regularly booted off the Karmic CD for a while, and am submitting this bug from.
