Bug Description

The title says it all. Everything was fine with 9.04, but since I installed 9.10 my ASUS W3Z keeps crashing on system shutdown with the messages displayed in the attached picture - sorry I can't really cut-and-paste it!

The system is somewhat responsive - if I hit keys I can see them displayed onscreen, if I attach USB devices the kernel output came up onscreen, etc - but the system is otherwise hung, and I have to switch it off with a press-and-hold.

It seems some kind of a crash in ioremap_change_attr(). I've tried to Google it around, no luck.

Needless to say, I'm up to date with the latest kernel updates.

I am available for further testing!

I forgot to say:
it's Ubuntu 9.10 x86_64

I've tried the following:
- running the Ubuntu 9.10 x86_64 installation disk
- "try Ubuntu without installing" (Ubuntu live)
- shutdown
and it fails all the same with the same error.

So it's NOT related with my own installation, but it comes straight from the original.

By analyzing it I _suppose_ that the crash is somewhat related to the video driver (e.g. "rb_insert_color").

My laptop is equipped with a (bloody) "ATI Radeon Xpress 200M" for which Ubuntu 9.10 now provides an open-source driver - which by the way gives other problems esp. when switching from/to console and when logging out (screen flickering with bad frequency), still in this Ubuntu release.

More investigation... it has nothing to do with the graphic card. "rb_insert_color" is just a kernel function which is about data structures called "red-black trees".

Seems solved in Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx Alpha-3.

What's the kernel version being used in Ubuntu 10.04 alpha 3? Is the fixed something that can be backported to 9.10?
