Dell E153Fpf 15" monitor not supported for native resolution

I am on Ubuntu 9.10.
This is a feature request.

I am using a Dell E153FPf 15" lcd monitor and it is not being recognized, so it defaults to a very low resolution compared to the native resolution. 640 X 480 and 800 X 600. The native resolution is 1024 X 768 @ 60 Hz. I was able to get it working at that resolution with the xrandr utility but that was painful learning it and an upgrade is likely to require the time to do it again.
Here are the lines I used along with the specifications for the monitor that I am hopeful will allow you to incorporate support in a subsequent release.

gtf 1024 768 60 (returns)
modeline "1024x768_60.00" 64.11 1024 1080 1184 1344 768 769 772 796 -Hsync +Vsync

crt 1024 768 60 returns a slighly different set of numbers. I used the above though. But here is the results of that one:

Could you please type xrandr --prop>xrandr_output.txt in a terminal and attach the output to this bug report? This should give us your monitor's EDID information. Note that sometimes I have to type the xrandr --prop command twice to get the EDID information.

This problem is still present in ubuntu 10.04 LTS updated as of Oct 9, 2010. It can be easily fixed for individual computers following the steps here:

The monitor remains unsupported/unrecognized, and yes, it would be nice if the monitor could be supported in the future.
