Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-media

There is no option within gnome-volume-control or pulse audio anywhere to set cancel motherboard audio (rear panel) when the front panel headers are plugged in. I understand that this is a fairly common feature to all other operating systems.

This is not a hardware problem as I have tested the system with a windows configuration with good results.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately we can't fix it without more information. Would you please add the information requested from the "Reporting Sound Bugs" section of https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingSoundProblems as separate attachments? If you are running Jaunty or Karmic this can be done automatically if you run "apport-collect -p alsa-base 504020" (without the quotes) from the terminal.
If you are running Karmic, please read through the following wiki page as it resolves a lot of common audio problems.

Thanks in advance.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Can you please try installing "linux-backports-modules-alsa-karmic-generic" (then reboot) & report your results? A number of audio problems on laptops have been resolved by installing this package. Also please ensure there are no extra "alsa model quirks" in your /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
If this does not resolve your issue & you are using Jaunty or Karmic, please run the command apport-collect -p alsa-base 504020.
Thanks in advance.

Hi there Mitch,

Thank you for looking into my bug! I have installed the backports and
checked the alsa-base.conf for alsa model quirks. There were no quirks.
The backports have not solved the problem either.

Regards

John Madgin

1. Please ensure all "linux-backports-modules-alsa-" packages are not installed
(including "linux-backports-modules-alsa-karmic-generic" that I asked you to try previously).
2. Install the "crack of the day" alsa-driver from
https://edge.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-audio-dev/+archive/ppa
<https://edge.launchpad.net/%7Eubuntu-audio-dev/+archive/ppa> Also ensure that
you install the "linux-alsa-driver-modules-2.6.31" package from that same
repository.
3. Ensure there are no added “model quirks” in the file
/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf (there would only be quirks in this file if you
have edited it).
4. Do a complete shutdown, as a reboot does not seem to make these settings "stick".
5. Ensure that the correct channels are not muted using alsamixer (from a
terminal window).
6. Do a complete shutdown, as a reboot does not seem to make these settings "stick".
If this does not resolve your issue, please run the command apport-collect -p
alsa-base 511685 so that I am able to help you further diagnose this issue.
Thanks in advance!

Sorry for my copy/paste fail. The command is:
apport-collect -p alsa-base 504020.
Please run that command to submit more information after installing the packages from the Ubuntu Audio Dev team PPA.
Thanks in advance!
