Bug Description

In Ubuntu Karmic 9.10, sound for many people, like me, just doesn't work, neither through Analog, USB, or digital. It would work after an install of Linux, but after some updates it'll just not work, no audio ever from any speakers. No, it is not on mute and it may be on highest volume. This bug has most likely been caused by one of the updates from the update manager, but I can't tell which. No other way to explain how to reproduce the problem, except install updates through the update manager.

Put Audacity in thinking that that meant that it was effected by the bug, not that it caused the bug, sorry, still new.

Hi racer13fly,

Please, if you are still having issues, test with the latest development release of Ubuntu. ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p alsa-base 498684

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds .

Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text.

Please let us know your results.

[This is an automated message. Apologies if it has reached you inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]
