the problem lasts.
this time only three programs up: rhythmbox, transmission and firefox.
I was watching a video on youtube, when the program was last encountered.
managed to close down firefox and the problem (seemed to have) dissappeared.

I can't reproduce the freeze.
Seems today, that the freeze happens no matter what programs are open.
Sometimes I get the impression that there is an invisible window. This is backed by the fact that when I earlier today experienced the freeze, I tried to close down any window without any luck.
Suddenly one window popped up, that I believe belonged to bittornado.
I closed that one and everything was stuck still. no alt-tab possible. the mouse didn't interact with the windows.
Reboot was the only solution.

Can you reproduce the freeze?  If you close Transmission first, does it
solve the issue?

It seems that something in the combination between programs firefox and rhythmbox freezes the menu at top. (Perhaps some addons for firefox are causing the problem?)
The mouse does move, but one cannot click items.
