Historial of commands in the shell isn't working properly. When I modify a previous command, the command executed isn't the same that's showed.

Bug Description
Binary package hint: gnome-terminal
1) Ubuntu 9.10
2) Gnome Terminal 2.28.1
3) I search for a previous command (using the up arrow key), then I modify the one I want. When I click "del" or "backspace", I expect the shell to remove the character.
4) Other letters or white spaces appear in that point. Even if I get to a point where the command is OK, when I click enter an error occurs because the executed command is not exactly like the one I was seeing, it contains another letters.
