Bug Description

after updating my system i couldnt boot anymore, i was dumped back to "initramfs" commandline that complained that /dev/disk/by-uuid/mydiskid - was missing, and in fact an uuid for my root partition was completly gone.

I fixed it by changing grub entry to /dev/sda3 (in my case) and my pc booted correctly again.

in initramfs CLI doing blkid DID NOT show the uuid for my root partition at all.

after changing the UUID in grub entry to /dev/sda3 i can boot just fine, and i can see the partition uuid in blkid - its still same UUID - nothing changed.

Also even now when i can boot correctly i dont see any entry for this UUID in /dev/disk/by-uuid - its missing.

for me it boots to a login prompt, no gui. I also see warning errors about vbox flash by.
2.6.31-14 boots me just fine.
I am running nvidia 190 drivers and the upgrade showed them also getting upgraded so could it be related to a video driver issue?

I also have problems after upgrade to 2.6.31-15, -14 still running fine.
At boot I first see the white ubuntu-logo then the start procedure stops at a flickering tty login prompt.
ssh and other network services are functioning, is gdm the problem?
(since previous poster mentioned it, I also run nvidia 190(.42), no clue if it's related...)

Sorry for double-posting, but I found this:

Haven't had a chance to test any of it yet, but sounds exactly like the problem I'm having.
