Bug Description
Binary package hint: hal
Touchpad was working with ubuntu 9.04 but stopped working when I installed 9.10
=== Diagnosis ===
Run 'uname -a' and determine if the kernel version matches with the current OS (2.6.31 for Karmic). If the kernel version is incorrect, then the problem is likely caused by driver incompatibilities.
=== Fix ===
Modifying the /boot/grub/menu.lst file to include the correct kernel entry to boot into is necessary. Usually, 'sudo update-grub' should be sufficient. Then reboot the computer.

This is probably not a duplicate of bug 479839 because the make/models of the laptops in question are completely different. While the symptoms may be similar, the fix for both of these computers may be slightly different.
