Bug Description

Binary package hint: software-center

I installed Karmic UNR on my Lenovo x61s. The first time I attempted to install my additional packages, software-centre broke.

it won't upgrade, uninstall, reinstall. It is just ocnstantly broken.

Using 'fix broken packages' in Synaptic doesn't help, nor does " sudo dpkg ---configure -a 2 or anything else I have been advised to try.

Considering resintalling 'Karmic Proper' as opposed to UNR version from scratch...

This looks like something is wrong with your system, not a specific bug in software-center. Could you please run a memory test and a filesystem check?

This error still exist in package software-center 5.6.0-0ubuntu2
In my case it appears for the first time within distribution upgrade (from quantal - to raring)
There is no error message in terminal - it just freeze and only what I can see from ps ... command it stuck on postinst script.
$ /bin/sh /var/lib/dpkg/info/software-center.postinst configure
I have to always kill postinst process to make upgrade to continue.

apt-cache policy software-center
