Bug Description

from the bug summary web page for a particular package in ubuntu I expect a link named 'report a bug' to
actually let me report a bug. Instead the link redirects to a info page instead.

It took me 10 minutes to figure out to actually submit the report I wanted to report. And no, your instructions did not help me / apply to my case.

This is not a ubuntu bug per se but a configuration bug of launchpad for ubuntu. It prevents users from reporting bugs.

To be sure, you're talking about pages like this :

https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+search?text=linux

the red link hasn't the behaviour you expected.

If so, this is not an ubuntu bug, but a bug for the launchpad project. More details here :

https://launchpad.net/launchpad-project

I don't think you can change this bug's project. You have to mark it as "invalid" and open a new bug in launchpad project.

I totally agree. I had the same issue today.

While I understand the case for apport bug reporting, I don't like the fact that I cannot submit a bug via the normal way. When you're not running Ubuntu at that moment it is hard to use the ubuntu-bug script.

Put a huge banner on one entry point in Launchpad to promote ubuntu-bug, but leave the report a bug button as is, to report a bug.

Exactly, report a bug is report a bug...
Promote as you wish, but having to manually add strings to url is ridiculous
