Bug Description
I just did a fresh install of Kubuntu Karmic 9.10 Alpha 6
When I lock my screen either by screensaver activity or pressing the lock widget, I can not unlock my session.
It repeatedly says "Unlocking failed". To unlock my session I have to switch to a virtual terminal (CTR-ALT-F1), and killall kscreenlocker.
This recent KDE forum thread reports the same problem with 4.3:
http://
I followed the debugging steps mentioned in the thread, I and have checked these permissions:
20 -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 18920 2009-09-15 18:31 /usr/lib/
188 -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 190488 2009-09-15 18:31 /usr/lib/
44 -rwsr-xr-x 1 root root 42856 2009-07-31 07:59 /usr/bin/passwd
There is no krunner_lock on my system.
Let me know if any other information will help with this.
I found the solution, which I posted on the other bug. I reproduce it here to make it easy to find.

I found the solution for my situation at bug #299717. I needed to fix the group assigned to /etc/shadow.
The solution was to:
chgrp shadow /etc/shadow
kscreenlocker unlocks now.
