Bug Description

I have been struggling to get the nvidia driver working on my system. A common debug/resolution suggestion that I've read is to uninstall/reinstall the nvidia drivers. The reinstall failed as I didn't have the "patch" package installed.
<log/>
/usr/sbin/dkms: line 35: patch: command not found
Error! Application of patch nvidia-rt-compat.patch failed.
</log>

"Patch" should be included as a depends for nvidia-180-kernel-source. Alternatively, I've read in a few places that nvidia-rt-compat.patch may no longer be necessary; if that were the case the whole patch could be removed and this bug would no longer exist.

Kubuntu 9.04
2.6.28-15-generic
nvidia-180-kernel-source ver. 180-44

Good catch, it seems most of the Ubuntu developers are developers so have patch installed and must have missed this.

Btw, are you using the -rt kernel? Perhaps that patch only gets triggered in certain circumstances.

It would be helpful if you would run apport-collect 434154 on the affected system, since that will include information that is helpful in understanding why things aren't working on your system.

nvidia-graphics-drivers-180 (185.18.36-0ubuntu8) karmic; urgency=low
