Bug Description
The boot process proceeds to the time X should start, and then it hangs with a black screen. Commenting out the nvidia driver (put there by Karmic's recognizing that my motherboard has an nVidia chipset), allows X to start with imperfect video. Then if I install the nvidia driver (all three options [95, 173, 185] have the same result) and reboot, the original problem returns.
I should say it was only the updates of about 9/12 that caused this problem. I had been using A5 productively since it originally came out. I reinstalled A5 from scratch and observed the same thing: the CD install worked fine; I did the 300 updates and the above problem returned.
