Bug Description
Until now a newbie always had the problem of see & use .ISO images without burn the disk or search information of mount images with "rare" bash commands, scripts or external programs (like Acetoneiso and similar tools for GNOME).
I found CDEmu that is a CD/DVD-ROM device emulator for linux, licensed under GPL v2 (To more information the page can be found here: http://
It support .ISO and other popular image formats, can emulate multiple images at the same time and can be tested in this PPA repository: https:/
To use it is very easy, in my case I use Kubuntu Jaunty (I uploaded images to show how looks in my system):
- You click the image file with the mouse contextual menu ( http://
- Done! You will see the image (in the posted images is the GDI95 disk) like a real CD or DVD inserted in an optical drive ( http://
- To mount & use it I only must work like everybody do with the real CDs or DVDs ( http://
To unmount and/or eject the ISO image is the same process of a real device.
I haven't tried it in GNOME but the project has an additional GNOME applet called gCDEmu but I think that is optional like happens in my Kubuntu case that I don't need extra programs, is totally transparent to the user.
Due to the small packages size of the project and the easiness of use would be nice if can be added by default in the next Ubuntu/Kubuntu Karmic or at least to be added in the official repositories.
