Bug Description

OpenCPN: A concise ChartPlotter/Navigator. A cross-platform ship-borne GUI application supporting * GPS/GPDS Postition Input * BSB Raster Chart Display * S57 Vector ENChart Display * AIS Input Decoding * Waypoint Autopilot Navigation

This software is a free software alternative to commercial GPS-based boat navigation software in a market dominated by over-priced windows-only software running on proprietary protocols. It would complement Gpsdrive and the likes.

Most of the standard functions are available for common nautical chart formats and the programme is fully functional as it stands. The package is under active development.

URL: http://sourceforge.net/projects/opencpn
License: GNU General Public License (GPL)
Notes: Based on Wx-Widgets. Debian packages are available at Sourceforge. Works on Ubuntu.

Hi Folks,

Just wanted to check-in and see the status of this. Do we think the package will be in Lucid repos soon? I'm pretty inexperienced and have been struggling to get the package to build in lucid so to have it in the repos would be a blessing.

This would be a invaluable tool to us folks down here, as we spend a lot of time on boats fishing and sailing and a few of us fish for a living.

Happy to test if required.

Thanks for the hard work.

Cheers
Brendan

Hello Brendan,

there's still some issues with the licensing of a few files last time I checked. I also haven't heard from Anton (above) re: the status of the package.

There's a thread here which may help you with your issue http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/f134/ubuntu-10-4-and-opencpn-40856.html. Otherwise post your problems over there.

The build process has been changed to cmake, instructions here: http://opencpn.org/compiling_source_linux

Have you tried the precompiled package on opencpn.org?

Thanks for the feedback.

I'll pick up with the opencpn community on getting this working on my installation. Unfortunately the recompiled 32 bit debs would not install on Lucid 64bit.

All the best
Brendan
