It would be nice if the brother scanner drivers would be available through synaptic just as the printer drivers. The scanner drivers are available here:
http://solutions.brother.com/linux/en_us/download_scn.html
when packaging one can adjust the udev rights accordingly, so users dont have to do it themselves any more:
as described here: http://wiki.ubuntuusers.de/Brother/Scanner?highlight=brscan#udev-Regeln-anpassen |
It would be nice if the brother scanner driver brscan is available through the Ubuntu repositories. The scanner driver is available from:
http://solutions.brother.com/linux/en_us/download_scn.html
Please note that certain scanners won't populate unless you "Change Country (Language)". For example, the ADS-2100e will populate if you choose Deutschland(Deutsch) as the language, but not if you choose United States(English).
The license for the driver allows distribution and modification to package with Ubuntu:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/383147/+attachment/4803090/+files/License.txt
When packaging one may need to create a UDEV rule. For example, when using the ADS-2100e scanner with Xenial 64-bit, one must install Brother linux (deb) driver brscan4-0.4.4-1.amd64.deb from:
http://support.brother.com/g/b/downloadtop.aspx?c=at&lang=de&prod=ads2100e_eu_as_cn
Then, create file /etc/udev/rules.d/39-brother.rules :
ATTRS{idVendor}=="04f9", ATTRS{idProduct}=="037d", ENV{libsane_matched}="yes"
"39" because it needs to run BEFORE the /lib/udev/rules.d/40-libsane.rules - there is the variable "libsane_matched" needed.
