Bug Description

Description: Ubuntu karmic (development branch)
kernel : Kernel 2.6.30-5-generic
Release: 9.10

i expected the system to load normally without hangs

it's hangs after grub menu on black screen

i've been instructed by someone to remove the "quiet splash" kernel options from the grub command
doing that, i can login into X, else i can login using the "single" kernel option, but not using the "quiet splash"
and on each case i don't see the splash screen although the graphic cards is installed using "navyng" package

with help of "whoop" an ubuntu forum member, i was able to see the splash screen using the kernel option "vga=0x318"
but the loading progress isn't centered into the screen

This bug also affects me, and I noticed one detail:

While hanged I can continue boot if I issue a system wide sigterm (alt+sysrq+e). This probably closes usplash letting the system continue the boot process.

My system information: Laptop Dell Inspiron 1501 AMD Turion64X2 / ATI RS482 [Radeon Xpress 200M]

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. In the event that this is still an issue with the final release of Karmic - please execute the following command, as it will automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 380347

This will help us to find and resolve the problem. Bear in mind that you may need to install the python-launchpadlib package from the universe repository. Additionally, when prompted to give apport-collect permissions for Launchpad you will need to give it at least the ability to "Change Non-Private" data as it will be adding information to your bug report. Thanks in advance!

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the appropriate application's "Help -> Report a Problem" menu or using 'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.
