AJP M3000N siezes up after a random period since upgrade to Jaunty

Bug Description

My AJP M3000N (which is a rebadged ASUS M3000N) used to work fine under Intrepid. Since I have upgraded to Jaunty I get complete sieze up at random times after boot. There seems to be no consistency to what happens to cause the sieze up.

Once siezed up no keyboard activity is possible. The mouse moves the pointer on the screen, but mouse clicks do nothing. If the machione was already connected to a wired Ethernet then SSH login is possible and the machine appears fine. Thus it seems to be an X problem rather than an OS problem per se.

I wonder if Bugs 367464 and 352373 are actually replicas of this?

This is a critical problem since it makes the laptop unusable.

Looks like I have the same problem too (reported #377381). Although I'm not running on laptop, and I have a clean new installation of public release Kubuntu 9.04.

This isn't a duplicate of 355155, the behavior described is exactly that of a video hardware/driver failure.

Russel Winder, could you attach /var/log/messages, /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old (after a crash), /var/log/Xorg.0.log, and the output of dmesg?

Also include your /etc/X11/xorg.conf (which I'd expect to be empty)

Sadly, I am not going to be able to comply with this request. I bought myself a new laptop and handed the AJP M3000N on to my wife (whose previous machine really wasn't up to it) and she has to use W$$$$$$, so the machine is no longer running Ubuntu.

So unless someone else with the same machine can step up and help I guess we just have to terminate this bug report in its Incomplete state.

Sorry I should have reported this sooner.

Not a problem, it wasn't your fault. This bug got incorrectly marked
as a dupe, which prevented anyone from paying attention to your actual
issue.

If you could borrow the laptop, you should be able to reproduce the
issue on a 9.04 live cd without actually installing.

That said, I'm fairly certain that it's basically the same issue as
the rest of the -intel video issues we had, which have been addressed
in 9.10.

Let me know if you can or can't try a live cd. If you can't, I'll
mark this as invalid, and if you can, then I may be able to close it
as a duplicate of the actual correct bug :)
