Bug Description

Use cases:
* I copy an image with gimp, and try to paste it in openoffice.org. It works!;) But when I close gimp, the image is deleted from clipboard. However, if I copy image from my own gtk program using gtk_clipboard_set_image, it remains even if I close the program. IMHO users expect images to be left in memory even if the program closes.
* I would like to be able to copy image from a web browser and paste it in the programs later. This can be partially achieved by dragging images, later programs like gimp fetch it again, but thats an unnecessary download and delay.

Suggestions:
* Add Copy Image option in Firefox (like there is in firefox windows ver btw) and Epiphany (should be easy to do, just an option in menu + gtk_clipboard_set_image(...))
* Make that images copied in Gimp, OOo etc stay even the programs are closed
* Make more programs use this interface (copy/paste an image in Eog, gthumb (?))

This sort of feature would have the best chance of being implemented if it were written up in the form of a feature specification, the way Ubuntu devs set goals for releases. If you'd like to help make this a reality, please visit https://wiki.ubuntu.com/FeatureSpecifications and follow the process there. Thanks.

One of the only things my mum uses the computer for is word processing, and the only reason she wants to go back to Windows when we get a new computer is that she can't copy images from Firefox into the word processor. Would really appreciate it if anyone gets this feature implemented.

AFAIK this is fixed in the latest beta of FF3 (shipping in Hardy Heron)

Following through the Gnome bug, you get to a webkit bug, but I can't find webkit here to link directly, so:

These seem to be mostly fixed, any remaining parts could be filed as separate bugs.
