uname -a tells me this: 2.6.28-11-generic #42-Ubuntu SMP Fri Apr 17 01:57:59 UTC 2009 i686 GNU/Linux
dbus fails because struct ucred is not defined. You have to edit the temp copy of the source file so this will compile, but it needs to be done every time the source is unpacked.
sumversion.c needs to have #include <limits.h> added to it for a proper compile. Same thing exists here as being a hack by modifying a temp copy of the source file.
I have encountered the problem with ubuntu 9.04, and others have had problems with 8.10. 9.04 supposedly has the problem and 8.04 does not, but I do not have firsthand experience with these.
